Dr. Ankeet S. Bhatt, MD, MBA, ScM, Assistant Professor of Health Systems Science at Kaiser Permanente Bernard J. Tyson School of Medicine, was featured on the Medscape InDiscussion Cardiorenal Metabolic Syndrome Podcast to share insights on the critical role of implementation science in modern medicine. Dr. Bhatt emphasized how implementation science serves as the “final common pathway” to translate research and therapies into meaningful outcomes for patients, particularly those affected by complex conditions like cardiorenal metabolic (CRM) syndrome.

Dr. Bhatt addressed barriers such as clinical inertia, underdiagnosis, and inequitable access to therapies, pointing out that fewer than five percent of eligible patients are on optimal guideline-directed treatments for conditions like heart failure. He also discussed promising strategies, including the use of electronic health record tools, remote monitoring, and digital health platforms, to support more personalized and scalable solutions. “It’s an exciting time to be an implementation science researcher,” said Dr. Bhatt. “The therapies are abundant, and the opportunity to impact patient outcomes is immense.”
