Application Timeline

We appreciate your interest in the Kaiser Permanente School of Medicine. The following timeline provides important information and dates you’ll need to know when you apply to the School.

Spring 2019

Start Getting Organized

  1. Request and obtain letters of recommendation.
  2. For reference, read Medical School Letters of Evaluation .
  3. Submit the AAMC Fee Assistance Program Application . This program aids those unable to take the MCAT or submit the AMCAS application without financial assistance. The application opens in early January and closes in mid-December.


Prepare for the MCAT

  1. Study for the exam .
  2. Take practice exams .
  3. Register for the exam .

You must take the MCAT within three years of entering the School. Your most recent score is the one we’ll consider.

Early May 2019

AMCAS Primary Application Opens

  • The application and submission instructions are at the AMCAS website .
  • Your application includes personal information, transcripts, meaningful experiences, essays, letters of recommendation, and MCAT scores.
  • To save time, order your transcripts and write essays in advance.
  • Letters of recommendation must be signed on official letterhead.

Early June 2019


AMCAS Application Can Be Submitted

  1. Apply as early as possible so that you will have more time to gather the required supplemental documents.
  2. After applying, all eligible applicants will receive a Secondary Application invitation from the School.

June to November 2019


  • AMCAS applications are received.
  • The School sends invitations to submit a Secondary Application via email.
  • You will also receive access to a website that allows you to monitor the status of your application.

July 2019 to February 2020

Secondary Applications Are Reviewed

The School Sends Invitations to Interview

August 2019

Interviews Begin

The School uses a Multiple Mini-Interview (MMI) and traditional interview format.

Last MCAT Exam Opportunity to be Considered for Current Application Cycle

October 1, 2019


Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) Is Available

File the FAFSA as soon as possible to know what loans and grants are available to you.

October 1, 2019

AMCAS Application Is Due

Deadline extensions are not granted under any circumstances. Read AMCAS application policies .

October 23, 2019

Last CASPer Test Opportunity to be Considered for Current Application Cycle

November 2019 to March 2020

The School Sends Offers of Admission on a Rolling Basis

  • Offers are made by email.
  • Offers are conditional upon the School’s receipt of required information including transcripts and a satisfactory criminal background check.
  • $100 is required to hold your spot in the class, which can be refunded if you decide not to join the School and let the School know prior to April 30.

November 1, 2019

The School's Secondary Application Is Due

  • You may not submit your application after the deadline.
  • Application updates will not be accepted after submission.

Premedical Advisory Committee Letters and Individual Letters of Recommendation Are Due to AMCAS

January 1, 2020


Transcripts Are Due to AMCAS

February 1, 2020


AMCAS Verification Deadline

  • In verification, AMCAS reviews your transcript to ensure it matches your Primary Application.
  • This process takes about six weeks.

March 2020

Attend Second-Look Weekend

Get to know faculty and fellow students through planned activities and programs, while exploring all the School has to offer.

April 30, 2020

Last Day an Admitted Student Can Simultaneously Hold a Place at the School and Another Medical School

For offers extended after April 30, you have a maximum of five business days to respond, or two business days for offers extended within 30 days of the start of the Early Immersive Experience.

July 27, 2020 to August 14, 2020
