The Office of Student Engagement (OSE) is here to support you throughout your medical school journey. We provide an array of services, resources, and opportunities to help you make the most of your experience and pursue your goals successfully. We are committed to facilitating an inclusive learning environment that promotes a sense of belonging, holistic well-being, leadership development, and a supportive community. Our goal is to ensure that you don't wait to graduate from medical school to enjoy life.
Learning Communities are intentionally designed, longitudinal groups of students, staff, and faculty that serve as a vehicle for co- and extra-curricular student engagement initiatives. Students are assigned to a community when they enter KPSOM. Through academic and social activities and events, these communities create a space where peers grow and bond together over the course of their medical education journey.
In addition to community-building activities, our Learning Communities include the Student Council (KPSOM student government), Peer Mentoring Program, friendly Learning Community competition events, and more!
The purpose of KPSOM Learning Communities is to:
All students are members of the Student Council, which is integrated into the Learning Communities to help ensure the interests of all students are represented.
The council is made up of six committees, whose members include representatives of each cohort (class) of KPSOM students from each Learning Community. Student Council members are either elected by their peers or appointed by committee advisors. The committees are:
Participating in a KPSOM student organization can help students to develop leadership skills, build community, and create professional connections with faculty and staff advisers. Get involved, meet students with shared interests, take part in programs and events, and enhance your medical school experience by joining organizations that match your interests.
KPSOM has three types of student organizations based on affinity, personal interest (academic, professional, social, etc.), and medical specialty. New and different organizations are formed on an ongoing basis. The school also has campus-wide committees that are led by various department staff, and enable students to address issues affecting the entire KPSOM community.

KPSOM is excited to support the professional development needs of our students as they pursue their medical education. All students are eligible to apply for funding to attend medically related conferences, which may include opportunities to present their research. Students may also apply for funding to join affinity and specialty based professional associations, which can provide networking and additional opportunities for learning.
