Public health leader, clinician, and nationally recognized medical analyst Vin Gupta, MD, MPA, will serve as the keynote speaker for Kaiser Permanente Bernard J. Tyson School of Medicine’s (KPSOM) third commencement ceremony recognizing the Class of 2026 on Monday, May 11, 2026, at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium.
Dr. Gupta is among the nation’s most visible and influential voices in public health. While practicing as a critical care pulmonologist, he holds several concurrent roles. Dr. Gupta is the Managing Director at Manatt Health, where he focuses on transforming the future of medical education through technology integration, providing public health strategy and communication for external organizations, and supporting the development of hospital-at-home programs with health systems. He is also a longtime medical analyst for NBC News and MSNBC, providing trusted expertise on issues ranging from respiratory health to emerging innovations in medical care, and maintains the title of affiliate assistant professor at the University of Washington.
“Dr. Gupta’s career reflects the values we aim to instill in our students: rigor, service, and a commitment to advancing health through innovation and compassion,” said John Dalrymple, MD, Dean and CEO of KPSOM. “His work across clinical care, public health, and technology exemplifies the multifaceted leadership our graduates will bring to the communities they serve. We are honored to welcome him as this year’s commencement speaker.”
In addition to his work in public health and innovation, Dr. Gupta is a commissioned officer in the United States Air Force Medical Service Reserves, where he serves as an Officer-in-Charge of a Critical Care Air Transport Team. His leadership across clinical, academic, military, and media settings reflects a career dedicated to improving health and healthcare systems wholistically and across sectors.
“There’s no greater or more humbling privilege than to be entrusted to speak to the next generation of healthcare leaders on one of the most special days of their lives,” said Dr. Gupta. “KPSOM is the vanguard of medical education’s future, and I am thrilled to serve as commencement speaker this year.”
Dr. Gupta has spent more than a decade at the intersection of healthcare delivery, technology, and public communication. His experience includes serving as Chief Medical Officer for Amazon, Clinical Team Consultant at Apple, and Director of Strategic Health Diplomacy at Harvard’s Global Health Institute.
Dr. Gupta has been widely recognized for his contributions to medicine and public health, including being named one of the 40 Under 40 National Leaders in Minority Health by the U.S. Congressional Black Caucus and the American Medical Association.
