Kaiser Permanente Bernard J. Tyson School of Medicine (KPSOM) proudly shared that Dr. Joyce R. Javier, MD, MPH, MS, FAAP, KPSOM Associate Professor of Health Systems Science, has been named president-elect of the Society for Pediatric Research (SPR), a leading national organization dedicated to advancing multidisciplinary pediatric research. Her appointment was officially announced in late April at the Pediatric Academic Societies (PAS) annual meeting in Honolulu, Hawaii.
Dr. Javier primarily focuses her research on preventing depression and suicidal behavior among immigrant communities, particularly Filipino American youth, through community academic partnerships and strengths-based approaches. She has led several NIH-funded studies aimed at improving mental health outcomes through evidence-based parenting interventions.
“I’m honored and humbled to serve as president-elect of the Society for Pediatric Research,” said Dr. Javier. “It’s a privilege to represent a community of national and international pediatric researchers dedicated to advancing science that leads to improved health outcomes for all children and youth.”
“Dr. Javier’s appointment to this prestigious national leadership role is a powerful reflection of her tireless work and dedication to innovative and collaborative pediatric research,” said John Dalrymple, MD, KPSOM Dean and CEO. “Her research, mentorship, and advocacy embody the values we uphold at KPSOM, and we are thrilled to see her receive this well-deserved recognition.”
Dr. Javier has received national recognition for her work, including the American Academy of Pediatrics Local Hero Award. Her longstanding involvement with SPR—as a co-chair of the Advocacy Committee, member of the Executive Council, and liaison on the Pediatric Policy Council—positions her to lead the organization in championing its mission to cultivate a multi-disciplinary network of child health researchers through collaboration, community, mentorship, and advocacy.
