The Kaiser Permanente Bernard J. Tyson School of Medicine has received an Honorable Mention in the 2023 GIA Awards for Excellence from the Association of American Medical Colleges. The school was recognized in the Electronic Communications category for outstanding work on its Title IX Program website , which provides the KPSOM community with comprehensive information about federal regulations prohibiting sex- or gender-based discrimination, bullying, and harassment, and outlines the school’s resources to address problems and resolve issues.

Launched in late 2021, the KPSOM Title IX Program website was created by the school’s Ethics and Compliance team in collaboration with KPSOM Marketing and Communications. The site was built through a partnership with Kaiser Permanente Information Technology.

“We were excited to learn of the honorable mention for the KPSOM Title IX website,” said Lindsey Green, KPSOM Title IX Coordinator and Compliance Practice Specialist. “The project was a rewarding collaboration amongst many different Kaiser Permanente departments and teams. It is great when complex regulatory requirements can be made accessible to a broad audience and we are thrilled to provide such an important resource.”

The Title IX website provides a user-friendly space for students, faculty, and staff to find information, resources and reporting tools. In addition to regulatory requirements, the site contains extensive FAQs to help students and others understand the process and procedures and determine how to proceed if they have a concern.

Among those collaborating on the project were Margaret Denton, KPSOM Chief Compliance Officer; Anitha Badrinarayanan, Director, Ethics and Compliance Intelligence for Kaiser Permanente; Tara Langer, Compliance Consultant for Kaiser Permanente; Gwen Harlow, Senior Web Developer, Kaiser Permanente Multimedia Communications; Alison Stateman, KPSOM Marketing and Communications Writer; and Stephen Ryfle, KPSOM Marketing and Communications Editor.

The GIA Awards for Excellence  is an annual, peer-reviewed competition that recognizes creative and effective approaches used to promote academic medicine through alumni relations, communications, development, marketing, and public affairs and community relations programs and projects.
