UMass Memorial Health of Worcester, Massachusetts has been named the inaugural recipient of the Bernard J. Tyson National Award for Excellence in Pursuit of Healthcare Equity. The award is co-sponsored by The Joint Commission (a nonprofit agency that evaluates safety and quality in healthcare organizations) and Kaiser Permanente.
The two organizations created the annual award in memory of Bernard J. Tyson, the late Kaiser Permanente Chair and CEO, who died in 2019, and for whom the Kaiser Permanente Bernard J. Tyson School of Medicine is also named.
