Mark Schuster, MD, PhD, Kaiser Permanente Bernard J. Tyson (KPSOM) Founding Dean and CEO, discussed promoting diversity and inclusiveness in medical education during the Aug. 18, 2022, edition of the Health Views with Deb Friesen, MD podcast. Schuster shared his “passion for innovation, inclusivity, and commitment to improving the health and well-being of patients and communities by leading one of the most diverse medical schools in the nation.” He also expounded on the school’s core mission, vision, and values; the physical development of the school, which is intended to enhance small-group, team-based learning and collaboration; KPSOM’s clinical learning which draws from the expertise of Kaiser Permanente; pandemic lessons learned; and the school’s REACH (Reflection, Education, Assessment, Coaching, and Health and well-being) program which provides students time for self-reflection and to ponder how to reach their health, wellness, and academic goals, and work on resilience skills and more.
