As part of an evolving approach to tuition and student financial support, Kaiser Permanente Bernard J. Tyson School of Medicine (KPSOM) is transitioning its financial model with a continued focus on access and opportunity for future students. KPSOM originally waived tuition for its first five entering classes and later extended that commitment to the first seven classes through generous support from Kaiser Foundation Health Plan and Hospitals.
KPSOM remains committed to helping students pursue medical education with need-based institutional aid as the school advances its tuition and financial aid strategy. With the launch of the medical school’s comprehensive student financial support strategy, the first component features the introduction of the KPSOM Impact Scholarship. The scholarship is intended to recognize applicants who demonstrate academic excellence, resilience, leadership, and a sustained commitment to improving health outcomes and strengthening communities. In addition, the scholarship is part of a broader framework that will include a robust combination of need- and merit-based grants and support, enabling students to focus on becoming physicians and shaping their careers without the burden of overwhelming educational debt.
Prospective students are welcome to apply for the KPSOM Impact Scholarship beginning with the entering class of 2027. The scholarship provides full cost-of-attendance support for selected students in each entering class throughout all four years of medical school.
“At KPSOM, we are committed to educating physicians who are prepared to lead with purpose and help improve the health and well-being of patients and communities,” said John L. Dalrymple, MD, Dean and CEO of KPSOM. “The KPSOM Impact Scholarship reflects our school’s commitment by investing in students whose academic promise and dedication align deeply with our mission.”
