Antonio Hernandez Conte, MD, MBA, Kaiser Permanente Bernard J. Tyson School of Medicine (KPSOM) Clinical Professor of Clinical Science, has received the prestigious Bertram W. Coffer MD Excellence in Government Award from the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA). This national honor recognizes physicians who have made exceptional contributions to advancing the field of anesthesiology through public service and advocacy.
Dr. Hernandez Conte was recognized for his leadership in addressing critical issues facing the profession, including the anesthesia workforce shortage, access to safe anesthesia care, and economic reform within the Medicare and Medi-Cal systems. His efforts have strengthened physician engagement across California and helped shape effective policy solutions through collaboration with legislators and stakeholder groups at both the state and national levels.

In addition to his role at KPSOM, Dr. Hernandez Conte is a Cardiac Anesthesiologist at Kaiser Permanente Los Angeles Medical Center and a Partner with the Southern California Permanente Medical Group. He is the Immediate Past-President of the California Society of Anesthesiologists and holds leadership roles on several ASA committees, including Vice Chair of the Committee on Practice Management and Chair of the Ad Hoc LGBTQ+ Committee.
