Clinical Professor
John J. Sim, MD, is a Clinical Professor of Medicine and Research Mentor at KPSOM and a nephrologist and clinical investigator at Kaiser Permanente Los Angeles Medical Center. At KPSOM, Dr. Sim brings expertise in nephrology, clinical research, and graduate medical education to his work with learners and colleagues. He also serves as Director of Graduate Medical Education, Simulation Center, and Research at Kaiser Permanente Los Angeles and as Regional Lead for Chronic Kidney Disease Quality and Analysis for Kaiser Permanente Southern California. His scholarship focuses on hypertension, chronic kidney disease, and glomerular diseases, with an emphasis on improving care, outcomes, and population health for patients with kidney disease. Drawing on Kaiser Permanente’s integrated care system and diverse patient populations, his work has helped advance understanding of kidney disease progression, cardiovascular complications, and effective approaches to quality improvement. Dr. Sim is also committed to education and mentorship, directing the Internal Medicine Residency Research Track and mentoring residents, fellows, students, and junior faculty in clinical research and academic medicine.
