Dr. Ian McLachlan serves as a mentor for the KPSOM Student Mentoring Program and as a member of the Faculty Advisory Committee. He serves as Chief of Social Medicine at Kaiser Permanente San Francisco Medical Center, where he was previously named Physician of the Year. In this role, he combines evidence-based medicine, artificial intelligence, and data-driven leadership to transform patient care. In clinical practice, he combines medical and epidemiological expertise with analytic tools to identify and eliminate health disparities, and leads cross-functional teams to tackle complex challenges in care delivery. Dr. McLachlan has led initiatives to reduce racial and ethnic disparities in wait times, cardiac care, and vaccination rates to promote equitable outcomes. He has been published in Annals of Emergency Medicine and the Journal of the American Heart Association, and his research has received significant grant support. Dr. McLachlan is also a board member and legislator in professional and community organizations, helping shape policy to deliver total health by integrating broader ecological data with social determinants of health.
