Associate Dean for Medical Education Research and Scholarship
Dr. H. Carrie Chen is a nationally recognized researcher in the areas of competency-based education and entrustable professional activities (EPAs). She most recently served as Senior Associate Dean of Assessment and Educational Scholarship, Professor of Pediatrics, and a member of the Teaching Academy at Georgetown University School of Medicine. She is also Adjunct Professor of Medicine at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences and Volunteer Professor of Pediatrics at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF). She completed her medical degree and pediatric residency at the UCSF School of Medicine where she held the Abraham Rudolph Chair in Pediatric Education. She received her Master of Science in Education from the University of Southern California Rossier School of Education and her Doctorate in Health Professions Education from Utrecht University in the Netherlands. She serves on the editorial board for Advances in Health Sciences Education, is a member of the International Competency-Based Health Professions Education Collaborators, and is faculty for the International Course on the Ins and Outs of Entrustable Professional Activities.
Dr. Chen closely collaborates with colleagues in all departments of KPSOM and at other medical schools to develop scholarship and evaluates innovations in medical education for students, residents and practicing physicians.
