Shawn Wilson, PhD, Faculty Director of Academic Career Support and Advising, partners with our academic departments and other key offices to provide faculty development programming for career advancement. His primary functions include offering advice and feedback to individual faculty regarding academic progress, introducing programs such as orientation that assist faculty in achieving their academic goals, overseeing nominations for external faculty awards, and supporting our faculty-related accreditation processes. 

Shawn joins KPSOM as a national leader in faculty affairs and development, having previously served as both Vice Chair of Diversity and Professional Development and Director of Faculty Development at Indiana University School of Medicine. He has spent the past decade creating faculty development programming and coaching faculty. His scholarship and research center on (in)equity in academic medicine. He is active through the AAMC Groups on Faculty Affairs and Diversity and Inclusion. He has also served as an institutional representative for the AAMC Council on Faculty and Academic Societies.

Shawn earned his PhD from Indiana University, an MA from Ball State University, and a BS from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. He enjoys traveling and has been to more than 25 countries. He is also an avid supporter of the U.S. National Parks system. When is not traveling, he can often be found spending time at a local theater performance or enjoying time with family and friends. Shawn’s partner Kyle also works in academic medicine.
