Dr. Andre M. Cipta is a physician with the Southern California Permanente Medical Group specializing in Hospice and Palliative Medicine at the Kaiser Permanente West Los Angeles Medical Center. He has held leadership roles across undergraduate and graduate medical education, including serving as the Founding Subspecialty Director for the Palliative Medicine Selective at Kaiser Permanente Bernard J. Tyson School of Medicine and as Emeritus Program Director of the Hospice and Palliative Medicine Fellowship at the Kaiser Permanente Los Angeles Medical Center. Dr. Cipta has developed and led innovative educational initiatives, including a mid-career, competency-based fellowship program under the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education’s Advancing Innovation in Residency Education initiative. His work as a clinician, educator, and researcher focuses on advancing evidence-informed, whole-person, patient-centered care for individuals with serious illness through the thoughtful integration of education, scholarship, and innovation. His scholarly and educational efforts have increasingly centered on novel approaches to education, the relationship between spirituality and health, and the use of AI-enhanced extended reality to support empathetic care.
