Senior Associate Dean for Research and Scholarship; Professor

With more than two decades of experience as a pediatric health services researcher and medical educator, Dr. Jonathan Finkelstein serves as Kaiser Permanente Bernard J. Tyson School of Medicine’s Senior Associate Dean for Research and Scholarship. Dr. Finkelstein is widely recognized for his research, which has been funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), and other agencies, and focuses on the link between clinical care quality and population health. An academic generalist physician, Dr. Finkelstein previously served as Senior Vice President for Safety and Quality and Chief Patient Safety & Quality Officer at Boston Children’s Hospital. For 14 years he co-directed the Harvard-wide Pediatric Health Services Research Fellowship program, which has trained more than 140 postdoctoral fellows to date. He was a Professor of Pediatrics and Population Medicine at Harvard Medical School, where he directed the Clinical Epidemiology and Population Health course for nine years. In his role at KPSOM, Dr. Finkelstein is responsible for creating a robust environment for students and faculty to engage in research and other scholarly activities. He works collaboratively with research leaders throughout Kaiser Permanente to build a scholarly environment for the school.
