Physical activity may help improve COVID-19 outcomes

Study finds reduced risk of hospitalization, ICU admission, and death

A Kaiser Permanente study of nearly 50,000 people with COVID-19 suggests that regular physical activity provides strong protection from hospitalization, intensive care unit admission, and death. Even exercising inconsistently lowers the risk of severe COVID-19 outcomes when compared to people with no physical activity, according to the findings. The study was co-authored by Deborah Rohm Young, PhD, KPSOM Professor of Health System Science and a research scientist with the Kaiser Permanente Southern California Department of Research & Evaluation.
