Executive Consultant for Philanthropic Strategies

As Executive Consultant for Philanthropic Strategies for the Kaiser Permanente Bernard J. Tyson School of Medicine (KPSOM), Stephanie Witte is charged with conceptualizing and implementing the structure for a fully staffed Development Department that delivers additional revenue toward the school’s priorities. She is also responsible for educating and aligning with Kaiser Permanente leadership.

Ms. Witte has more than 20 years of fundraising experience, primarily in academic medicine. Prior to joining KPSOM, she was the Chief Development Officer for National Public Radio (NPR) in Washington, D.C., and Los Angeles. She was charged with driving philanthropic growth across all platforms and promoting a culture of philanthropy across the public radio network. During her time at NPR, she oversaw a 45-member staff and $35-million annual budget, and comprehensively restructured the organization’s Development Division. In addition, she conceptualized and launched the nonprofit media organization’s first capital multimillion-dollar campaign.

Before NPR, Ms. Witte served as the Assistant Vice Chancellor of Development for UCLA, where she led all fundraising for UCLA Health and the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. She oversaw an 80-member staff and a $275 million fundraising budget. She also contributed to the university’s Centennial Campaign, one of the most ambitious fundraising campaigns by a public university, which resulted in more than $5 billion in support. She began her career at UCLA as a Senior Executive Director of Development.

She previously served as the Executive Director of Development for Columbia University Irving Medical Center in New York, which is home to four professional colleges and schools dedicated to scientific research, health and medical education, and patient care. In this role, she oversaw all fundraising for Columbia University’s Department of Medicine and the Naomi Berrie Diabetes Center, successfully closing on more than $23 million in individual gifts.

Ms. Witte earned a BS, cum laude, from the University of Cincinnati.
